Lose weight and never find it again.
How many times have you lost a few pounds only to gain them back again? You worked so hard to lose the weight but it comes back so easy. This is one of the most frustrating aspects about weight loss. Why is it such a struggle for you to maintain a healthy weight?
The next time you reach your weight loss goal, maintain your new weight with these tips from the pros.
Remind Yourself
You’ve come a long way, and you don’t want all your hard work to be for nothing. Yes, you may have lost weight with swimsuit season in mind, but why not make it until next summer…and the summer after that?
Find a picture of yourself when you weighed the most. Post it in your home where you’ll see it daily—maybe on the bathroom mirror or better yet, on the refrigerator door. Before you open the door to grab a snack, you’ll think twice. Lasting weight loss is a life-long commitment.
Second, write a list of all the reasons you want to keep the weight off. Include things like “I can wear my skinny jeans,” “I feel prettier and more confident,” or “I finally have energy to do what I’ve always wanted.” With these reminders, you’ll be better able to stay in control of your weight and your life, instead of letting food and laziness do your thinking for you.
Monitor Yourself
One day a week at the same time, step on the scale. If you see the pounds starting to go up, it’s time to get serious about weight management strategies. A weekly weight check-in is an effective way to stay on top of your weight. Don’t let out-of-control eating and not wanting to exercise get the better of you again. When you see the scale moving in the wrong direction, recommit to a healthy lifestyle.
Renew Your Membership
Just because you’ve reached a healthy weight doesn’t give you permission to throw all your weight loss strategies out the door. That gym membership helped you get where you are today, so don’t let your membership run out. Renew it and keep going week after week. Burn those extra calories and stay healthy!
A New Lifestyle
Lasting weight loss is about effective lifestyle changes. Your main objective should be health and overall wellness. Weight loss is just another added benefit. The exercise routine, a healthy diet, monitoring calories, and adequate sleep are all part of losing and maintaining weight and staying healthy. Don’t let these habits fall by the wayside. Find exercises you enjoy and make them part of your daily routine. Keep your food diary. Eat breakfast. Go to bed at a decent hour. And reap the rewards!
Make the exercise habits you started a part of your continuing lifestyle. If you exercised in addition to eating a healthy diet while losing weight and then you stop exercising and continue eating the same amount of calories, you’ll gain the weight back in a flash!
It’ll Get Easier
If you hate exercise, fruits, and vegetables, then staying healthy will not come easy for you. But with a health/weight loss goal in mind, you should be willing to make necessary changes no matter how hard they might be. It will be hard at first, but it will get easier.
As time goes by, you’ll notice that you’re not as tempted by unhealthy choices as you were before. In fact, you won’t even obsess over diet and exercise. They’ll just become a natural part of your lifestyle. When this happens, you may be able to drop the food diary and remove the “before” picture from your refrigerator. You’ve finally worked your way into a bona fide healthy lifestyle and it’s here to stay!
